One Heart recruits Christian foster and adoptive families

One Heart recruits Christian foster and adoptive families (see requirements here) by making presentations to churches, sharing testimonies about foster care and adoption, speaking to small and large groups, as well as one-on-one meetings with those interested in foster care and adoption.

One Heart crosses cultural barriers to reach families of all nationalities and color. They recruit Christians, single or married, who are interested in becoming a foster or adoptive family. One Heart will walk you through the training and placement process and will help guide you physically, emotionally, and most of all spiritually in your decision to make a place in your home for a foster or adoptive child. Families are encouraged to join our support groups to receive the training and advice needed to care for these children.

How You Can Support Foster and Adoptive Families

Not everyone is called to open their home—but everyone can do something. Here are practical ways you can come alongside foster and adoptive families in Missouri:

  • Provide meals for families when they receive a new placement or are in a busy season.
  • Offer childcare or respite so foster parents can attend appointments or simply recharge.
  • Donate supplies such as diapers, car seats, school supplies, or gift cards.
  • Sponsor a child or family during the holidays through programs like our Christmas Blessing initiative.
  • Volunteer your skills (tutoring, mentoring, home repair, hair care, etc.) to meet unique family needs.
  • Partner with us through your church and build a foster care ministry that supports families year-round.
  • Sponsor and volunteer at events hosted by One Heart, providing encouragement and community for families.
  • Volunteer at the One Heart Foster Closet in Des Peres
  • Give financially to ensure ongoing resources, training, and support are available for foster and adoptive families.
  • Be a listening ear—sometimes the most powerful support is simply showing up and caring.

Together, these acts of service create a safety net for families who have opened their homes. When you serve, encourage, or provide, you become part of a child’s healing story.

📢 Find Your Role in the Movement

Build Awareness

The need is great—and awareness is the first step toward action.

Right now, thousands of children in Missouri’s foster care system are waiting for safe, loving homes. Many more need temporary care, consistent support, and the hope of family connection.

At One Heart Family Ministries, we believe the church and community are part of the solution. By raising awareness, we not only shine a light on the needs of children in foster care, but also inspire families, churches, and individuals to consider how God may be calling them to respond.

Why Awareness Matters

  • Informs the community about the realities of foster care and adoption in Missouri

  • Dispels myths that prevent families from stepping forward

  • Opens doors for families to explore fostering, adoption, or supportive roles

  • Mobilizes churches to wrap around families with prayer, meals, childcare, and ongoing care

  • Creates a movement of compassion and faith-based action for vulnerable children

How You Can Help Build Awareness

  • Host an awareness event like Hope for Kids at your church or community center

  • Invite a One Heart speaker to share stories and practical steps at your gathering

  • Partner as a church that helps us support families year-round

  • Share resources and testimonies through newsletters, social media, and small groups

  • Pray and advocate for children and families impacted by foster care

Together, we can make sure no child in Missouri’s foster care system feels unseen or forgotten. Awareness is the spark that leads to action—and action changes lives.

Promote our annual recruitment event, Hope for Kids

Hope for Kids – A Morning of Inspiration and Calling
Join us each spring for Hope for Kids, an annual event hosted by a local church and open to the public. This special morning is designed for anyone curious about fostering or adopting through Missouri’s foster care system.

You’ll hear powerful testimonies from Christian families who are walking the journey of fostering and adoption—stories of how God is at work as they open their hearts and homes to children in need.

One Heart Family Ministries will share how you can become a licensed foster or adoptive family in Missouri and connect you with the resources and community to help you along the way.

🌱 Whether you’re exploring fostering, adoption, or simply looking for ways to support vulnerable children, Hope for Kids is the place to start.
